Nitish counters Modi's barb

Amarnath Tewary

Two days after BJP’s prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi slammed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on several fronts and also for possessing “arrogance higher than Mt Everest”, Nitish Kumar on Wednesday countered Modi’s charges categorically and said that arrogance was an abstract thing which could not be measured.

Kumar also took on Modi on Kosi relief fund and Sachhar Committee report data while reiterating that his fight for special status for the State would continue till he succeeds. “There is no scale to measure arrogance. Its an abstract thing. Though we are proud of the Himalayas but comparison with it should always be for good things. I’m not an arrogant person but yes I am proud to be a Bihari”, responded Kumar on what Modi said on Monday at his Purnea rally that Kumar possessed arrogance even higher than Mt Everest.

Though without taking the name of Narendra Modi, Nitish Kumar, called him an arrogant person. Yeh ahankar doosre log ke paas hai…rom-rom se tapkata hai aur uske bhuktbhogi Gujarat mein honge, he jibed at Modi while addressing the media. Earlier, Kumar had told the media that he wanted to counter every charge made against him point-wise on Tuesday itself but couldn’t do so as expansion of his ministry was to be done.

While taking the war of words between him and Narendra Modi further, Nitish Kumar also explained that comparisons between a developed State like Gujarat and a backward one like Bihar could not be done. “We’ve tried hard to make Bihar a developed State and that’s why we’ve been continuously fighting for the the special status demand for the State”, he said.

But, what the others have been saying on this issue is just vague and confusing. “They talk about special package, special attention but not the special status…no specific term has been used yet”, he said. On the Kosi flood relief fund sent by Gujarat Government which was returned by Bihar Government, Nitish Kumar countered that first it was not the money sent by the people of the Gujarat but from the chief minister’s relief fund of Gujarat to the relief fund of Bihar Chief Minister. “When we realised that effort was made to reap political benefits out of that sent relief fund we decided to return it after two years in 2010”, explained Nitish Kumar.

“Jab lauta diya to samne wale ne rakh bhi liya..lautaya to nahiIJ..It was not meant to degrade anyone but to keep the honour of the people of Bihar”, asserted Nitish Kumar. While putting the record straight on Sachhar Committee Nitish Kumar sought to know which year’s data Modi] was using to target his GovernmentIJ
