'Gujarat model can be emulated with change'

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said that a single development model cannot be implemented in the entire country but States can replicate certain features of each other’s models for their own advantage.

Responding to a query on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on the possibility of replication of Gujarat development model with certain changes in Bihar during his speech in Kolkata, Modi told newspersons in Patna on Tuesday that every development model has its own strength and uniqueness and hence a single model cannot be implemented in other States.

Development models of Jharkhand and Odisha have been created on the basis of their mineral rich economies. These models could not be completely replicated in agriculture based economies, Modi reasoned.

“Bihar has, however, given a development model for the economically backward States”, he remarked. The Deputy Chief Minister said that Bihar replicated the Right to Service Act to its advantage by taking a cue from Madhya Pradesh and later Karnataka also sent a team of senior officers to Bihar to study salient features of the Right to Service Act.
