Coalgate probe to wind up by Dec

PNS

The coal scam probe is expected to wind up by December this year. This fact came to light in the latest status report submitted by CBI before the Supreme Court bench monitoring the coal scam probe.

The Court asked the agency to submit its next status report in January 2016 and said, “By then we expected CBI to complete the probe in the entire scam.” At present, the agency claimed that out of 250 coal blocks under probe, the agency had achieved significant progress. But the bench felt that the agency had taken too long a time to finish the probe.

The status report of CBI indicated that six out of 32 RCs are still pending investigation in the allocations pertaining to 2006-09. In the allocations made between 1993 and 2005, CBI had filed 24 closure reports and 12 RCs. In the case of PSUs allocated coal blocks between 1995 and 2011, only three cases are pending investigation.
