The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday night registered a criminal offence against one Ashok Kumar J Mehta of Messrs Mamamiya Developers for allegedly carrying out unauthorised internal alterations in the building, leading to the collapse of the BMC structure at Dockyard Road in south Mumbai.
Simultaneously, the BMC appointed a high-level official committee, under Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ramesh Pawar to probe the administrative lapses, while another technical inquiry committee was set up under Director (Technical Services and Project) laxman Vatkar.
“Through technical experts and architects,the BMC will also carry out a survey of all C-2A and C-2 B buildings categorized dangerous and initiate necessary remedial measure to prevent recurrence of building collapses,” a senior BMC official said.
