Upping the ante against the BJP Government at the Centre, Mamata Banerjee once again questioned its decision to put one-day ban on the telecast of an English TV channel.
Saying that an “emergency like situation” was prevailing in India the Bengal Chief Minister said that the ban had shocked her and that if the Government had any problem with the coverage of terror attack in Pathankot it could have used other measures instead of banning the programme of the channel. “A ban shows that an Emergency-like situation is prevailing in the country,” she said.
According to reports the I&B Ministry’s inter-ministerial committee had recommended ban on the stated news channel for 24 hours for reportedly revealing “strategically sensitive information” while covering the anti-terror operations at Pathankot air base.
Early this year a ISI-sponsored terror strike at Pathankot base had left a number of defence personnel dead. Incidentally the Bengal Chief Minister had earlier condemned the detention of her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi
saying people would not accept such undemocratic approach.
“What is happeningIJ It is unprecedented. A CM is detained in his own State. He cannot move about freely. Unacceptable,” she tweeted hours after condemning the encounter death of 8 SIMI terrorists at Bhopal. Kejriwal and Gandhi were protesting the suicide death of an ex-Army man on the “one man one pension” issue.
