The game of political chess in Punjab is turning fiercer by the day, with “pawns” being attacked by the king for checkmating each other.
In the latest, Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa removed Pawan Dewan, known as former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s loyalist, from the post of ludhiana District Congress Committee (DCC) president on the charges of “indiscipline” — in an apparent attempt to show that he’s the boss.
The move comes just about a fortnight after Capt Amarinder categorically admitted that Bajwa is neither his supporter not friend while refusing to invite his for the “coronation ceremony” of his wife, Maharani Preneet Kaur, as the Patiala MlA.
The tussle between the two has been going since the time Capt Amarinder was heading the state party unit, and Bajwa was just an MP. The same has continued even after the reversal of roles for the two. Development also assumes significance to caution Capt Amarinder’s supporters and his detractors.
