The Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday hailed the apex court’s judgement saying that it would be good for the future of Muslim women.
Talking to media persons after verdict of the Supreme Court’s constitution Bench on the side-lines of a function, Rupani said that it was a historic judgement which would go long way to save Muslim females from the evil practice.
He trained his guns on Opposition ruling party by saying that Congress party never tried to resolve such an important issue in the past and focused on vote bank politics of minority appeasement.
He criticised former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for reverting the apex court’s judgement in Shahbano case. In wake of the Congress’s appeasement politics, the party didn’t care about the plight of Muslim females. With the verdict, Muslim women would be saved from mere uttering of talaq three times, he added.
