Waterloo of Yechury or KaratIJ

CPI (M) headquarters was totally like a doomed home on Saturday morning, after their bastion Tripura was breached. Few days ago in Twitter Yechury was bragging that Tripura will be the Waterloo of BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ever media friendly Yechury was totally reluctant to speak to media after the results. Now the Comrades are asking is Tripura election Waterloo of Yechury or Prakash Karat.

Himanta's Cong angle

BJP key strategist in Tripura and former Congressman Himanta  Biswas Sarma was asked whether he would stay put in the state to oversee formation of Government. Responding to the query Sarma said smilingly that he was heading to Meghalaya where he had "some issues to tackle."  He was alluding to Congress strategists Ahmed Patel and Kamal Nath rushing to Meghalaya to muster majority for the party in the state. Seemingly, Sarma knows Congress leaders well enough to effectively counter them.

Rahul's Mistry

Congress chief Rahul Gandhi's love for two party veterans- C P Joshi and Madhusudan Mistry- have now come under scanner within the party circles after yet another poll debacle in the north east region and before that loss of party MlAs in Bihar. While leaders and former Chief Ministers like Digivijay Singh have borne the brunt of high command and was axed of their responsibilities earlier, Joshi and Mistry continue to keep on their assignments. Erstwhile Bihar Congress Chief Ashok Chowdhry while quitting Congress last week held Joshi responsible for decline of cadre in the state. Similarly North East leaders too blamed Joshi's  lack of interest in the region. While daggers are out against Joshi, Mistry getting yet another task to head the screening committee for candidates for Karnataka assembly elections has not gone down well in the last 48 hours. "Rahul's Mistry is not quite Joshi-lay," quipped a top AICC functionary.

Cuisines & Nazm diplomacy

The dinners hosted by Pakistani diplomats posted in New Delhi are largely sober and quiet. However, this time a determined gang of some Indian journalists, writers and think tank members saw one of the such evenings at Pakistan political counselor Abdul Hameed's residence lit up by poetry and shayari where even Pakistani diplomats became active participants. There were several nazms read out by both Indians and the Pakistani diplomats to match each other. They were actively joined by the wives of the Pakistani diplomats. Icing on the cake was a sumptuous Pakistani food cooked by diplomat's wife.

Web of lies

Giving wrong information to the Supreme Court can attract a litigant with a heavy cost, criminal prosecution or even jail. But is the Supreme Court accountable for supplying outdated information to the world at largeIJ A look at the Supreme Court's official website would suggest it has been some time since that information on it was updated. Take for instance, the information on "law Officers." The website claims that beside Attorney General, Solicitor General (SG) Ranjit Kumar and five other ASGs assist the Court. The fact is Kumar vacated the post of S-G four months back and in addition to five ASGs, the Centre recently appointed four other ASGs.

Cleanliness & Godliness

You might be surprised to see four Sikh youths cleaning and removing garbage from the premises of Hanuman temple at Connaught Place every Tuesday and Saturday.  When asked, one of them said a place of worship should be neat and clean. There should not be any boundaries of religion. "We would not mind to start a similar drive in churches and mosques if the manpower is provided or people willing to join our drive", he said.  All the four Sikh youths are businessmen and childhood friends.
