Shifting and development of the colony situated near Shadipur has been in the news since it was selected by the DDA as the site of Delhi’s first in-situ slum rehabilitation.
Under the proposed in-situ rehabilitation plan, a public-private-partnership (PPP) project, the families will be provided flats in the housing complex, among other buildings coming up in place of the slum clusters. Around 3,000 families of puppet makers, drummers, magicians and artisans have been residing here for the last four decades. The colony is part of the New Delhi constituency and Congress Ajay Maken is sitting MP.
