The much awaited 9.7 km Lajpat Nagar to Mayur Vihar section of the Pink Corridor is going to open by December this year. This section will be the first in Delhi Metro to provide a direct connectivity between South and East Delhi by connecting Lajpat Nagar to Mayur pocket-I with an interchange at Mayur Phase-I for Blue Line. Currently, the Pink Line provides connectivity from Majlis Park to Lajpat Nagar and from Trilokpuri to Shiv Vihar.
This stretch is the extension of the operational Maljis Park-Lajpat Nagar section. “Trial runs are in progress on a 9.7-km stretch between Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar Pocket-1. Further, this corridor will cater to a large number of people living in the prominent areas such as Ashram, Mayur Vihar, Nizamuddin, Vinobapuri and other areas. Further, the issues related to Trilokpuri station also solved and the final nod is expected in a week," said a Senior Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official.
The Hazrat Nizamuddin Metro station on this stretch will connect Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station as well as the Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Sarai Kale Khan. Further, 63 metre Foot over Bridge (FOB) has been constructed on the interchange station- Mayur Vihar-I.
"Once the station becomes operational, it will make travel easy for the people going to Noida. This section will be a major boon for this part of the city as it does not have a metro network yet. Also, this section will become an easier route those who loves shopping as this corridor will connect the two major shopping hubs of the city-Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, INA and Sarojini Nagar," said the official.
The section will consist of five stations at Vinoba Puri, Ashram, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Mayur Vihar-1 and Mayur Vihar Pocket-1. Among the five stations, Mayur Vihar-1 and Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 will be elevated.
"The opening of this section by the end of the year will mark the completion of the Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar Pink Line at 59 kilometres. After its opening this section will become the longest line of Delhi metro network," added the official.
