Pioneer News Service

In a move to accelerate development and end what she called “years of neglect” in North-East Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday appointed Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra as Minister-in-Charge for the constituency.

Gupta chaired a high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat to review stalled and ongoing development works in the area, a populous region with a significant Purvanchal population.

The meeting was attended by a host of public representatives, including MP Manoj Tiwari, Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, several MLAs, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, and all local councillors.

The Chief Minister said the previous Government had ignored development in the area, leading to significant delays and stalled projects. She assured that her administration would ensure speedy progress, timely fund releases, and proper implementation to make the area a key contributor to a ‘Viksit Delhi’ (Developed Delhi).

Mishra’s new role will involve coordinating with public representatives and monitoring project progress. The Chief Minister directed officials to prioritise critical projects related to sewerage, water supply and sanitation, with an emphasis on time-bound completion.

Gupta also announced that a number of multi-crore projects, including the Yamuna Park, will be inaugurated collectively on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. Additionally, health camps will be organised at Arogya Mandirs across all Assembly constituencies starting from September 18.

“North-East Delhi’s development is a priority,” CM Gupta stated.

“With collective effort, we will create new opportunities in education, healthcare, infrastructure and employment.”

Kapil Mishra thanked the Chief Minister for the responsibility, assuring that all

projects would be implemented in a speedy and transparent manner.

The new appointment signals the government’s intent to focus on a region that has long faced challenges with infrastructure and civic amenities.
