In an important breakthrough, Uttarakhand police have arrested two persons allegedly involved in the murder of a doctor, Dr SK Singh at a community health centre at Jaspur in Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar on April 20. The accused have been identified as Malik Rathi, native of Bijnor, and his brother-in-law Subham Tyagi. Malik was living in Jaspur and he was working in a private factory in Kashipur.
Grilled, Malik said that he had murdered doctor SK Singh to take revenge against his refusing to treat his critically ailing one- and half- month old son on April 19 night.
He further said his son had later died. After murdering the doctor, the accused Rathi had pasted his son’s photo on his facebook.
Investigation revealed that Rathi was involved in several crimes in the past. His brother in-law had assisted him to murder Dr Singh, police said.
Police recovered a pistol and the bike used in the murder from the possession of the accused.
Accused Rathi said that his son was being treated by Dr Singh for the past one month. Suddenly on April 19 night, his condition having worsened, the father had rushed to Dr Singh’s residence. But, according to the accused, the doctor had refused to do anything, citing that it was midnight. He said he had knocked at other doctors too of the locality and they all had refused to treat his son.
His son had subsequently died, he said, adding that he had murdered the Dr Singh by way of taking revenge for his son’s death. He further said that his brother- in -law had helped him in bumping off the doctor.
Meanwhile, the broad- day- light murder of the doctor around 10.15 am on April 20 while he was on duty at a community health centre at Jaspur left the people scared. Demanding police to arrest the culprits, the doctors and other staffers of the State-run facility went on a strike from the day of the murder. The private doctors too assured the striking doctors that they would join too from Friday unless the culprits behind the murder were arrested.
Earlier, acting on the complaint from doctor’s family, a case under section- 302 of IPC had been registered against unidentified persons in Jaspur Police Station on April 20.
A team led by additional SP Kamlesh Upadhyay was formed to probe the case. Apart from this, several teams, including SOG, had been pressed into service to crack the case at the earliest.
Upadhyay said that team had finally succeeded in arresting the accused. State DGP BS Sidhu has announced rewards to the team for cracking the case in no time.
