Gall bladder stone is one of the very common health problems and surgery is the only solution for the disease, said senior consultant-general and laparoscopic surgeon at Max hospital, Dr G P Painuly, while addressing newsmen on Thursday.
He said that the gall bladder stores the bile produced by the liver and releases it to the intestine when required. The bile helps in fat emulsification hence is helpful in its digestion. The expert said that due to unknown reasons, the stones start depositing in the gall bladder.
“The symptoms like ache in the stomach and indigestion indicate stone in gall bladder. Nowadays with the help of ultrasound this disease can be diagnosed,’’ said Dr Painuly. He further said that removal of gall bladder is the only solution to cure the problem and for it laparoscopic surgery is widely prevalent now. He said that by this surgery the patients recover very fast.
The doctor said that in India the prevalence of gall bladder stone is 9- 16 per cent of total population.
He said that his experience shows that in Uttarakhand the prevalence of this disease is more. Dr Painuly attributed environmental and genetic factors for it.
A health camp was also organised at the press club by the Max hospital on the occasion.
