Doon University Chhatra Adhikaar Sangharsh Samiti (DUCASS) has criticised the decision of Doon University authority for disallowing DUCASS joint secretary to enter its campus. Earlier, the authorities asked the vice president of DUCASS to vacate her accommodation in the university guest house allegedly for objecting to anomalies in the institution.
DUCASS vice president Barkha Mathur said that there are numerous issues concerning the welfare of the students of the University like health-related facilities and scholarships and if university fails to address these soon, their association will intensify its protest against University administration. She alleged that university authorities have been overlooking students' concerns and trying to suppress them by taking actions against its members unconstitutionally.
According to Mathur, earlier she along with other union members had met the vice chancellor of Doon University and requested him to start MPhil programme in economics as planned and advertised by his own administration from this year. But immediately after the submission of the memorandum to the VC, she received a call from the university administration and was asked to vacate the dormitory of the guest house where she was residing for two weeks for completing her MA thesis.
The DUCASS members have decided to work against the vested interests who for their personal interests have kept the larger interest of the newly built university and the State of Uttarakhand at stake, she added.
