Security has been stepped up across Uttarakhand in the wake of the Gurdaspur (Punjab) terror attack, which has claimed about a dozen lives. The intelligence officials have been put on alert, especially along the areas bordering China and Nepal.

The district police officers have been directed to deploy additional forces at sensitive places, including bus stations, railway stations and other crowded places and conduct checking drives intensely in their jurisdictional areas, said State director general of police BS Sidhu.

Security has been tightened in all the districts too and police have been put on high alert to thwart any attempt by terrorists. Additional police and other security personnel have been deployed around vital installations and key public places in the State.

Sidhu said that an alert has been sounded across the State. Central agencies like SSB personnel along the Nepal Border and ITBP along the China border have already been deployed.

Along with these central agencies, local police station officers and local intelligence officials deputed along the border areas have been alerted. Police has set up check-points and have intensified checking of vehicles, he added.

Sidhu said, “All district police officers have been directed to patrol the roads and search suspicious- looking vehicles and persons. They have been directed to take measures to deal with any eventuality in their districts.”

Dehradun SSP Pushpak Jyoti said that police patrolling has been intensified at various places in the district. Police station in-charges have been directed to launch checking drives at important places, including bus stops, railway stations, crowded places and market areas in their jurisdiction. This aside, anti -sabotage checking squad, dog squad, bomb disposal squad and other teams have been deployed to search vehicles at exit and entry points in the city. Police are vigilant at sensitive and crowded places, he added.
