The Ravana Dahan was held at Gandhi Park to mark Dussehra, attended by nearly half a lakh people proved a good day for those who sell toys, bangles, food items and the like. People from across the city as well as from the outskirts started thronging the ground in their thousands since 4 pm, two hours ahead of the time when the enormous effigies of the demon trio-Ravana, Megnadh and Kumbhkarna- were put to flames. Along with the bustling multitudes came those who earn living by selling things to those who turn up in such huge congregation.
“The day has proved a good one for me, as I have sold traditional bangles to the women who have turned up. The volume of sale is pretty good, standing no comparison with what we sell on normal days,” said Amal who was found sipping tea with a beaming face when the crowd was swarming out of the ground after the demons turned ashes, proclaiming the triumph of good over evil.
