District forest department has finally succeeded on Wednesday to cage a prowling leopard at Jassawala village on Wednesday to the relief of the villagers from Jassawala. The big cat had eluded them for a week. With reports pouring in of the feline dragging children at regular intervals, the alarmed district forest department set up cages at several places across Jasswala village to entrap the beast. Success came on Wednesday, bringing relief to hundreds of scared villagers.
Notably, a 3-yr-old Rakib , son of Shameem, was mauled to death by the leopard in Jassawala village under Kaliyar Police station of the district on July 25.
Rakib was dragged by the big cat when he was playing in the agricultural field near the forest where his father had taken him to. Scared and angry people slammed the police and forest officials that day, alleging that they were leaving them to the mercy of the beast. Their frustration was justified with similar incidents having befallen them earlier too.
