Dehradun residents had a horrible time on Monday as major roads in the city were chocked due a procession by Tibetan community and more so with the authorities failing to take effective measures for preventing disorder on the roads.
Despite tall claims by the police, Doon residents experienced traffic jams at various locations in the State capital. Though Dehradun police claimed to have deployed its force adequately, traffic congestion was witnessed at various places like Survey Chowk, EC Road, Clock Tower, MKP College road, Haridwar Road, Dilaram Chowk, Rispana Bridge and other places in the city. With vehicles getting stuck in the congestion, the public complained that the police failed to act effectively for resolving the jam. Vehicle users had to spend half an hour extra to reach their destinations. Moreover, State DGP BS Sidhu had recently presided over a meeting with school authorities and directed them to make arrangement for parking for school’s bus, auto, van and parent’s vehicle within school campus. It seems, school authorities have not implemented his order so far which also added to the congestion. Despite protest rallies and cultural processions often causing major traffic congestion in different parts of the State capital, the police have yet to frame a concrete and effective policy to regulate traffic. SSP Ajay Rautela said in view of the rally, traffic police were deployed at various crossings to resolve the traffic congestion in the state capital.
