Govt docs to boycott work today

PNS

In retaliation to the vigilance action against one of their colleagues, the Government doctors are going to paralyze the health services of the State on Monday. The association of Government doctors, the Provincial Medical Health Services (PMHS), has given a boycott call to lend their support to Dr BC Joshi — the CMS of lD Bhatt Government hospital in Kashipur who was caught taking fees from a patient in his residence by a team of Vigilance department. The doctors of the State are agitated as they are of the view that the CMS was framed in the episode.

The General Secretary of PMHS Dr SK Goswami told The Pioneer that all the doctors of the State Health Services would boycott the OPD to express their support with Dr Joshi. He said that the PMHS demands that the action against the senior doctor should immediately be revoked and an internal inquiry should be ordered to look in the matter. Dr Goswami said the Government doctors examine patients after the OPD hours which include large number of VIP patients. The PMHS has asked the health directorate to issue clear directive in such cases.

He informed the doctors from all parts of the State would attend a meeting at Doon hospital on Monday where the future course of action would be decided. The doctors are of the view that if CMS is found guilty of taking fees in violation of NPA, then a departmental inquiry should be initiated against him. They claim that since the case is not a corruption case there should be no vigilance action against him. The OPD boycott call by the doctors would pose problems to the patients as more than 500 medical officers would be away from the OPDs. In Dehradun district 150 doctors are expected to take part in the boycott call.
