The much-acclaimed police initiative to turn tech-savvy through launching of citizens’ portal for lodging complaints on email is bearing fruit as a total of 525 such complaints have  been received on the portal since November 9 last, the day it was set into motion. The portal is a part of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS). It is learnt that 21 FIRs have been lodged after police conducted through investigation of the registered complaints. One can visit on the website — ukpolicecitizenportal.uk.gov.in/citizen/login.aspx. Things are easy. One has to submit the necessary information, including mobile number, along with the complaint. Once the complaint is lodged   one time password (OTP) number is automatically generated.

A senior police officer claimed that days of the people making futile rounds of the police stations to lodge FIRs against their complaints are coming to an end.

In the era of thriving technology when most of the people, especially those from the urban areas, are turning tech-savvy, adorned as they are  with mobile phones and computers as well as internet facility, the State police have taken initiatives under CCTNS to revamp policing technologically to be in sync with the demand of the time, the police officer  said.

State additional director general of police (administration) Ram Singh Meena said that the Central Government had earlier approved around Rs 16 crores required for completing the project. The digitisation of data in around 170 police stations and offices of senior police officers have almost been completed, the senior cop added.

To enable the police stations located across the State to have the voluminous data of crimes with analytical appraisal of the criminals to be accessed by the click of a mouse, they have been interconnected with CCTNS. The completion of CCTNS would mark a quantum leap in the State’s ability to counter various challenges to internal security, Meena added.

The CCTNS will have details like first information report, charge sheet, complete information about the criminals, panchanamas and status of the cases. This will help in strengthening the monitoring system too. The department officers can easily supervise crime cases occurring across the State. Additionally, it would focus primarily on functionality at police stations with special emphasis on crime investigation and criminals’ detection.

Citizens have been facilitated to register online First Information Report (FIR) in their respective local police stations, police officers said.

The FIR and other relevant information like case dairy, general diary and others have already been uploaded by the police officers concerned in CAS-4.0 in their police stations. The data centres and data recovery centres of the State have also been established in Delhi and Pune respectively.

This aside, police department records of around 10 years are being digitised and to complete things at the earliest, system integrator NIIT limited has been given a deadline, police sources said.
