MCD indifferent while muck is affecting heath’

Dehradun:Several days have passed since the flash flood in Rispana inundated several riverside areas of the city and yet the problems wreaked by it are far from solved. The residents of Bhagat Singh Colony and Sanjay Colony, two of the most affected areas, say that the muck  brought about by the flood are still lying accumulated in the colonies. “The same entered our houses along with the water. We cleared our residences of them. But we cannot remove the same from the roads. The drains are clogged and the roads are blocked. We are facing difficulty. There is also the problem of stink coming from the debris. We informed the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). They came, saw things and left without doing anything,” said a resident of Bhagat Singh Colony.

Another resident said that they had lodged the complaint on July 13 over the problem they were facing. “However, nothing positive has happened so far. MCD is utterly indifferent to our worsening plight. Our health is being affected as the debris is stinking,” he complained.

Asked about the role of the MlA vis-a-vis their problems, the resident said that he had no time to spare for them as he is pre-occupied with the demolition drive. “The problem might be further compounded if it rains heavily again,” he added. Queried over the people’s charges levelled against the civic body, an MCD officer said that they had gone to the locality on more than one occasion to remove the debris.“ But we were told by the residents to leave the debris there. They said they would use the same for their minor construction works,” added the officer.
