The Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that the recently concluded urban local body elections in Uttarakhand are significant also from the national point of view.
As the Congress failed to achieve a noteworthy victory in these elections despite the use of ballot papers, the questions raised by the Congress on the use of electronic voting machine (EVM) have become baseless.
The BJP state media in charge Devendra Bhasin said that the victory of the BJP in the local body elections will help strengthen the atmosphere in favour of the party in the states where Vidhan Sabha elections are to be held in the near future.
At the same time, the local body election results will also put to rest the questions raised by the Congress and other opposition parties regarding the use of EVM in elections.
The Congress and other opposition parties have been raising questions on EVMs following electoral victories of the BJP
But in the local body elections in Uttarakhand, ballot papers were used instead of EVMs.
The BJP achieved a resounding win in these polls while the Congress fared poorly.
This clearly shows that the party or candidate winning the elections is the one supported by the public whether the polls be held through EVMs of ballot papers.
Following the polls results, the Congress and other opposition parties should stop raising questions on EVMs and accept the results as public mandate.
Bhasin further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah tweeting on the party’s victory in the local body elections in Uttarakhand has greatly enthused party workers.
The chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and BJP state president Ajay Bhatt also tweeted in reply to thank Modi and Shah.
