Back home for the re-launch of the Congress party’s newspaper ‘Navjivan’, the Sikh face of Indian politics and the two-time former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was showered with praises on Monday.
The party projected ‘Punjab’s own son’ as a much mature Prime Minister as compared to the present incumbent Narendra Modi, while describing him as the “pride of the world”.
Congress national president Rahul Gandhi and Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar virtually outsmarted each other to heap praises on Dr Manmohan Singh.
Rahul Gandhi said that the former Prime Minister is actually the “Fakr-e-Sansar” for the way he worked with all humility, respect and love during his 10-year-long tenure.
“He, with all humility, respect, love, run the country. Even on the international stage, he showed the world leaders the way to work, for which he was being praised world over,” said Rahul.
Earlier, Jakhar had bestowed the title of “Fakr-e-Hind” to Dr Manmohan for taking the country forward during his tenure as the Prime Minister.
Jakhar lashed out the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for using “indecent” language in the Parliament. “It must be for the first time in the recallable history of about 71 years that the words of any Prime Minister were expunged by the Speaker in the Upper House which comprise of intellectuals,” he said.
Before Jakhar, the anchor for the event, Satinder Satti, had described Dr Manmohan Singh as “Fakr-e-Qaum” while introducing him.
