The Kapurthala police on Thursday suspended four policemen, including one sub inspector, on the charges of lapse in the security of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh during his visit to army cantonment to attend a army  function here on Wednesday night.

SSP Sandeep Sharma said four policemen who were on warning vehicle  ahead of police pilot were driving rashly ignoring the instructions of DSP (D) Sohan lal who was commanding the convoy of CM vehicles.

The SSP said this created a confusion and the CM convoy could not locate the way to come out of the army cantonment situated on the Kapurthala –Hamira road adding that the confusion was over within few minutes with  the wisdom of the other police officers who made a headway to come out of the cantonment area.

A source said that army CMP which was leading the convoy of CM to the cantonment area did not report when the function was over and  the police pilot and  police warning vehicle came in a confusion to find the way to come out of cantonment area.

Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday evening visited the army cantonment to participate in platinum jubilee celebrations of  a Sikh regiment  and participated in the vara khana (Community kitchen).

The media and district administration were not allowed to attend the function.

The chief minister made a brief halt at the residence of Punjab irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh a close confidant of CM before attending the function.
