Former Deputy Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Bir Devinder Singh on Sunday criticised Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for his “prolonged absence” from his constituency — Patiala.
“It is three months today when Capt Amarinder was elected to the legislative Assembly of Punjab from Patiala constituency on March 11, 2017. During this 90 days period, he has created a record of the sort to willfully stay away from the people, who have elected him to the Punjab Assembly for the fourth term,” said Bir Devinder.
He said that Capt Amarinder’s prolonged absence from the constituency certainly qualifies to be registered in the Guinness Book of Records. “The reason for this absence may be best known to ‘Captain’ but he certainly owes an explanation to the people of Patiala for their colossal neglect, if not an unqualified apology for the despicable lapse,” he added.
Bir Devinder claimed that the continued absence of an MlA for more than three months from his constituency, entails “lawful disqualification” under the election laws. “As such, Capt Amarinder would have been the first legislator, most deservingly disqualified by now,” he added.
He added that sulking voters of Patiala segment were dismayed because of the “fallacious behavior” of their elected representative.
