After engineering the ouster of Punjab’s former Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MlA and the leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha Sukhpal Singh Khaira is now after the State’s Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi accusing him of having involvement in illegal sand mining through his kin—an allegation categorically rejected by the Congress leader as “baseless and false”.
Khaira, armed with pictorial “evidence”, alleged that Channi is involved in illegal sand mining through his nephew. “Malikpur mine in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district was allotted to Kudratdeep Singh, son of Kamaljeet Singh of ludhiana who is the business partner and close associate of Channi’s nephew Bhupinder Singh alias Honey,” said Khaira. He claimed that Channi had invested his money in illegal mining trade through Honey.
“Honey has floated a firm named Punjab Realtors Company to get contracts of sand mining. The case clearly shows that black money is invested in getting contract of sand mine as the said company is of very small scale and is not able to get contract of crores,” he said. Showing photos of Honey and Kudratdeep Singh with Congress’ Cabinet Ministers Channi, Tript Rajinder Bajwa and also the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Khaira said that it show that the contractor has “deep links with the Congress leaders”.
He asked the Government to mark an enquiry in the case by a Commission under sitting or retired judge of High Court.
“The Chief Minister had tweeted about the illegal mining being carried out in the SBS Nagar area few days back... I have provided the facts about it and now it is the Chief Minister’s turn to take action against people responsible for it,” he said.
