The local police have arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly raping a 45-year-old woman employed in a Punjab Government office in sector 17, on Thursday.
Police said the victim was known to the accused and their offices were also situated nearby in sector 17.
In her complaint to the police, the woman alleged that Manjit Singh Kamboj, a retired official from Public Works Department (PWD), forcibly entered her residence and raped her while she was taking rest in the afternoon.
The woman said she resisted and tried closing the door but could not succeed. She was sleeping with the door open, claimed the police. The woman, a divorcee, stays with her son in sector 37. A case, on the statement of the victim, has been registered by local police.
Gurmukh Singh, SHO, PS-39, said that Kamboj managed to escape from the spot after rape. He was later arrested and sent to judicial custody.
