STUDENT OBSERVERS TO MONITOR SOCIAl MEDIA, PAID NEWS

SAS Nagar: For keeping a close watch on social media and paid news in the print and electronic media, coupled with the motive to engage youth in electoral process, students of colleges and universities are invited to work as volunteer-observer for strict implementation of model code of conduct. “I will coordinate with colleges and universities and will personally interact for the same. I have invited the youth who would like to help the Election Commission in monitoring of election process,” said Mohali election expenditure observer Jyotiraditya.

He said such student volunteer as observers could inform about paid news and election related advertisements on social media by following the leaders or political workers of various political parties and shadowing them online. “Anyone who would like to be part of such monitoring work is requested to either send whatsapp message with contact details on 98727-56715. They will have to enroll themselves by filling a form,” he said.

HAlF A DOZEN CMs-IN-WAITING IN CONGress: SAD

Chandigarh: SAD on Tuesday asked Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh to first settle the battle for Chief Ministerial gaddi within his own party before dreaming of capturing power and crossing swords with other parties at the hustings in Punjab. SAD spokesperson and Advisor to the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that everybody knows that the Congress party has nearly half a dozen CMs-in-waiting.

“Partap Singh Bajwa, Sunil Jakhar and Charanjit Singh Channi have always considered themselves as Chief Ministerial material. Even lessor beings such as Rana Gurmit Sodhi, Rana Gurjit Singh etc harbor such ambitions,” he said adding that the latest to join the long list is Navjot Singh Sidhu who has presumably been given assurance in this regard by none other Rahul Gandhi himself. “Sidhu himself has been cleverly trying to dodge this issue publicly but posters which have appeared in his constituency seeking votes in the name of ‘Sidhu for CM’ tell a tale,” he said. Sirsa added Rahul Gandhi has so far refused to declare Amarinder as party’s Chief Ministerial face despite desperate pleas by the latter.

END OF BADAl RAJ NEAR: PRENEET

Patiala: Former Union Minister and Patiala MlA Preneet Kaur on Tuesday said that people in the state are all geared up to dethrone the Akali Government, and the “end of Badal Raj is near”. Preneet, addressing an election meeting in favour of her husband and state Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh, said that the people of the state were fed up with the Badal regime and were all set to oust it.

Pointing out that 90 per cent of businesses in Punjab were controlled by the Badals, Preneet said that various mafias including sand, cable, transport, hotel and liquor were enjoying the direct patronage of the Badals and Akali-BJP ministers.

“It is not the Punjab government but Badal & Co that is running the state,” she said, adding that the Badals, along with Bikram Majithia and their cabinet colleagues had share in all the businesses and were filling their own pockets at the cost of the people of the State. She exhorted the people to vote for Congress in order to throw out the Akalis, whom she held totally responsible for the miseries of the common people.

Preneet assured that once the Congress forms the government in Punjab under the leadership of Capt Amarinder, the problems being faced by the people would be taken care of on priority basis.

SHUN ANTI-DAlIT AAP, ASKS SAD

Chandigarh: SAD on Tuesday said that AAP has not only promised to reserve the slot of deputy chief ministerial to dalits and released a detailed separate manifesto listing their priorities for the downtrodden community in Punjab but, it has miserably failed to disburse even their legitimate share aimed to promote education among them.

“A steep fall is witnessed in disbursal of scholarship to students of schedule castes and backward classes’ students in all categories is serious reflection that AAP government is apathetic towards their welfare,” said SAD spokesman Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

The explanation offered by AAP government that the fall in disbursal of stipend was because of fall in enrolment is ludicrous and stunning as it indicates that youth from these communities are abandoning studies in large numbers, he said. Sirsa said that the fall in enrolment should ring alarm bells with the government for its failure to inspire its people to take education. He maintained that the same exposed AAP’s anti-dalit face and Punjabis, especially from the SC community which constitutes nearly one third of the electorate, should think twice before voting for their nominees.

KEJRIWAl MAKING FOOl OF PUNJABIS, says SIDHU

Mohali: “After ruining Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal has set his next agenda to destroy PunjabThe Delhi people had voted him after getting lured to his baseless and fake claims. Now they are feeling cheated as AAP government has failed to honour its long list of promises. Ironically, the same tactics are being used by Kejriwal in Punjab to fleece people here,” said Congress candidate from Mohali Balbir Sidhu.

Sidhu, addressing a poll rally at Gobindgarh village on Tuesday, stressed upon the need to remain aware of these false propaganda by AAP leaders in Punjab. To get votes, they are making tall promises and claiming to be self-styled ‘honest’ while leveling baseless charges on others, he said.
