AAP announces 3 more candidates

Starting early and finishing first, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday announced its all candidates for the February 4 Punjab polls, completing the process of ticket distribution.

Announcing its last list of three candidates, AAP’s Punjab convener Gurpreet Singh Waraich (Ghuggi) said that Sarabjot Singh Dhanjal will contest from Amritsar East, Manish Agarwal has been fielded from Amritsar North and Rajinder Kumar will be party's candidate from Amritsar Central.

AAP is contesting its first Assembly polls in Punjab in alliance with lok Insaaf Party, headed by ludhiana’s Bains Brothers — Balwinder Bains and Simarjit Bains.

BRAR RElEASES TMC'S FIRST lIST

Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday entered the Punjab poll fray, as its state unit president Jagmeet Brar on Thursday announced five candidates, including a former minister and a former MlA.

Putting to rest all speculations of TMC allying with AAP for Punjab polls, former MP Brar released the party's first list of candidates. He announced former minister Dr Harbans lal’s candidature from Fatehgarh Saheb, Begum Parveen Nusrat from Malerkotla, Congress’ former MlA Vijay Sathi from Moga, Prof Manpreet Kaur Brar Rajoana from Baghapurana and Giriraj Rajora from Balluana (SC) reserve constituency.

Not confirming how many seats TMC would contest, Brar said that his party would made “repeated appeals for joint candidates” where the movement was weak. “But now, there is no further reason to hold back much stronger overlooked candidates and in the coming days, we will announce more names,” he said.

JASSI JASRAJ BACK IN AAP

AAP’s rebel and its Bathinda candidate in 2014 lok Sabha polls, singer-turned-politician Jassi Jasraj on Thursday mend his relations with the party.

Minutes after, he was rewarded with the twin posts of party’s state vice-president and Campaign Committee general secretary. If that was not enough, he was also given the responsibility of party’s spokesperson. Jassi, a day before, met Delhi Chief Minister and AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal at Chandigarh and expressed his desire to work for the party in the state again.

Welcoming Jassi’s return, Kejriwal said that he was always an asset for the party and his comeback is good news.

A few days before, Jassi has expressed his desire to contest polls from Mohali and even gave enough indications to AAP saying that his ideology is similar to that of the party.

CAPT FORGETS BASIC DECENCIES: SAD

SAD on Thursday stated that in pursuit of power, Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh has not only lost sense of proportion but even forgotten basic decencies and courtesies while commenting on his likely rival General JJ Singh in ensuing assembly polls.

Saying that Amarinder used “uncouth language” bragging that “usnu nani di yaad kara dang ga”, Punjab Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema said that his utterance reflected on Amarinder’s arrogance and feudalistic mindset.

“Amarinder could have behaved like a statesman saying that in any case, now a soldier would win from Patiala. Such a statement would have raised his political stature but Amarinder preferred to be street smart bully,” he said.

Cheema said that Amarinder should have shown some basic etiquette and like a soldier should have welcomed him on his entry into politics and that too in his city.

“Both Amarinder and Gen Sing had been disciplined soldiers and should have worked to raise the political discourse and battle to new heights and set a benchmark for others but Amarinder preferred to further downgrade it,” he said.
