Getting wrong facts

Politicians in Punjab, it seems, have nothing else to do but to dig deep into the family histories and familial ties for launching an attack on the rivals. Both the ruling and the Opposition have been going down the family history of the leaders in an attempt to show favouritism or bias. In the process, they have been committing mistakes and coming out with factually incorrect statements. A testimony to this effect was provided by the SAD Press statement by Akali stalwart Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa on State Congress spokesperson Sukhpal Khaira’s relation to Justice Kuldip Singh. Khaira’s relationship with a recently retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court was a matter of common knowledge. But, this is perhaps for the first time in the recent past that justice Kuldip Singh’s name has been dragged in. Khaira, on the other hand, has been trying to establish Justice AN Jindal’s closeness to the Badals and under fire Minister SS Maluka by coming out with details of his relations who are close to the power that be. Both the warring sides, however, failed to realise that one cannot choose his relatives, or cannot be condemned because of them.

PR mistakes galore

Practitioners of Public Relations of the Punjab Government and the Opposition Congress need to go back to school. For, “there” is “their” for Punjab Government public relation officials, and “father of the nation” too is the “nation of the father” for the Congress PR men. Sometimes the mistakes are such that it changes the entire meaning of the sentence, and send across altogether contrary message. Sample this: “Punjab Government issued instructions to all heads of departments to make sure that there was “more” misuse of electric equipments in the offices. The blunder committed by the Punjab PR department was corrected about two hour later when some journo friends pointed out the mistake. Mr Badal and Mr Bajwa, look out for the spelling and grammatical mistake, lest people start insisting that you two should employ teachers for your PR staff.

New venue of protest

Punjab Congress has found a new venue for staging protests — Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka’s residence in Kansal’s Sukhna Enclave. After former Minister and sitting Kharar MlA Jagmohan Singh Kang protested outside his residence along with hundreds of Congressmen, another party leader Former MlA Kanwar Pal Singh followed his footsteps. In the process, it is the Chandigarh Police officials who have to pay the price. “Politicians’ work is to create noise on every issue, and we are facing lot of trouble because of them without any issue. Has any protest proved fruitful ever,” rued a UT policeman.

Auditorium turns a boiler

Boasting of being connected to the roots, and being a farmer out in the fields, the sizzling sweaty afternoon has made the Badals pitching for an air-conditioner. Jam-packed with the winners of the recently held zila parishad elections, and their family members, the auditorium of the Kisan Bhawan in Chandigarh turned into a boiler during their felicitation function held during the afternoon. With no air-conditioning, blistering sun outside, big fans, and heavy rush inside, people were finding themselves fanning with whatever they found — cardboard, booklet, handkerchiefs, etc. Seeing this, the golden statement came from the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. “I can see all of you are feeling very hot. Even Sukhbir just asked me, ‘Daddy ji, please get air conditioning done here,” said Badal. However, “witty” Badal was clever enough not to make any announcement in this regard there.

BJP leaders embark on new role as investigators

BJP seems to be trusting investigative skills of their own men rather than the CBI. lacking confidence in CBI’s ongoing inquiry in Rail scam, the BJP took matter in its own hands this week. Going out of the way to dig up dirt on Bansal and his family members, the BJP announced constitution of “Pawan Kumar Bansal Scam Exposure Committee” having senior advocates and chartered accountants. The Committee, the party leaders say, would work to investigate into the alleged scams by companies of former Railway Minister Bansal’s family members. Certainly, it would be interesting to see how things unfold for both the BJP investigative leaders and Bansal.

Soaring temperature hit UT work

The soaring temperature to the highs of 43 degree Celsius in the city seems to have badly hit the functioning of the UT Administration. literally feeling the heat from the past few weeks, the UT officials are not only coming late to their offices but also missing the meetings outside their offices to avoid the inclement weather. The staff too has joined the higher ups in shirking the work. They have become too lazy to move an official file from one office to another and at the same time, pro-active when it comes to sending complaints of air-conditioning problems in their office to the concerned department. On this, a UT official said, it is too hot and no work is going on. The scorching heat conditions also affect us like others.

When Haryana CM had to wait

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had to wait for more than 20 minutes in front of the room at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon on May 26, where Opposition leader and Indian National lok Dal (INlD) supremo Om Prakash Chautala has been admitted to undergo a heart surgery after getting interim bail for six weeks in JBT scam case. Chautala refused to meet Hooda and asked his doctor to convey that he was taking rest. As Hooda came to know about the reality, he lost temper on his officials who recommended that he meet the Opposition leader. Actually Hooda went to meet senior Congress leader VC Shukla, who received bullet injuries in Maoist attack. Hooda wanted to extend his wishes for good health to Chautala, but as he refused, he immediately left the place and issued a statement in the Press that he went to Chautala to meet him. INlD believes that the proceedings in court on JBT Scam by CBI, took place after the green signal from Hooda-led Congress party. However, disgruntled Congress MP from Gurgaon Rao Inderjit Singh also went to meet Chautala and he remained there for 20 minutes in the room besides ID Swami there.

Top Babus in verbal duel at secretariat

Top officials of Himachal Pradesh are in a dilemma, unable to figure out as from whom to take orders. Two officials close to Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, indulged in verbal duel at the secretariat just in front of CMO. People were surprised with the act and no one knew what to do, as both were very senior and close to Raja Saheb. The story behind the duel was just simple that one officer whom Raja Saheb handpicked, was trying to give order to the other.

Heart change for BJP MlA

One BJP MlA, considered as a shrewd politician in political circles, suddenly had a change of heart. The MlA who left no stone unturned in spitting venom in Assembly or in public, is now found in the State secretariat praising Raja Saheb and his Government. Surprised people wanted to know the reason and it son they figured out that being under Vigilance glare for forged recruitments, he needed some respite or he may land behind bars spoiling his bright political career.
