Brain Stormer: Nitish Kumar: Under the Illusion of Third Front

Pioneer

Nitish Kumar, after becoming the Chief Minister of Bihar for the second time is now either under pressure from his Janata Dal (U) or may be harboring a grand dream of projecting himself as a prime ministerial candidate of a so-called ‘Third Front’, ‘Secular Front’, ‘Federal Front’ etc. Whatsoever it may be, his long road to the most powerful and prestigious ‘7 Race Course Road’ would definitely not going to be smooth. Surprisingly, even former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi had referred to him as ‘PM material’. However the party general secretary K. C. Tyagi brushed aside all the rumors saying that the party has neither taken any decision nor passed any resolution to project Nitish Kumar as PM candidate. Further, Tyagi has made it clear that Nitish is of PM material and if so many leaders like Charan Singh, V. P. Singh, H. D. Deve Gowda, I. K. Gujral, Chandra Shekhar, who hails from the Janata Parivar, could become PM, why can’t NitishIJ

Indeed, the very idea of a ‘Third Front’ consisting of all the anti-BJP parties to the forefront during the Bihar Assembly polls last year. Interestingly, Bihar poll was fought entirely against the growing ‘Modi wave’, which in a way started during the Delhi Assembly elections and hence all the anti-BJP parties like the Congress, Trinamool Congress, JD (U), Rashtriya Janata Dal, AamAadmi Party etc., irrespective of their ideological differences, came under one umbrella to fight the NDA alliance. This was literally a virtual war against Narendra Modi’s leadership and the combined opposition, subsequently won it. This victory has emboldened Nitish and the rest of the strange bedfellows like lalu who then wanted to bring out a ‘Third Front’ under the Bihar CM. Recently, while attending the swearing-in ceremony of Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata, lalu has given a call for forming a ‘Secular Front’ for removing Modi Government to save India from getting divided. Moving further, former Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir and the leader of the National Conference Omar Abdullah, batted for a ‘Federal Front’ under TMC supremoMamata Banerjee.

This all seems utterly confused whether it is Third Front, Secular Front or Federal Front. All these fronts have a single agenda-prevent the Modi wave, even at the cost of their ideological principles (if they have any). Nitish’s dream of ‘Sangh Mukt Bharat-sharaab mukt Samaj’ could be rightly called as absolutely an imaginary plank to fight any election and of course to convince the young generation of Indians for an obscure conglomeration of parties called Third Front or any such khichdi coalition. In the past, these kinds of fronts could hardly give any stable government to this country because of their varied political agendas. Nitish must concentrate on Bihar and since his coming to power, state has turned once again into a Jungle Raj. Then why to fight for a national platform, better bring safety, security and good governance to the ordinary citizens of Bihar. A leader like Nitish must come out of lalu’s grip and deliver the best to the state.
