An under-trial prisoner (UTP) lodged at the Dharmagarh Sub-Jail in Kalahandi district attempted suicide by slitting his genitals in his cell on Sunday.
The UTP, identified as Digambar Khamari, is an accused in a dowry torture case.
Sources said that Digambar attempted to end his life by cutting his genitals with a razor, which was given by a jail official for purpose of his shaving on the day. After he was found lying in a pool of blood in the cell, he was rushed to the Dharmagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital in a critical condition.
