Chief Secretary GC Pati has mooted alternative craftsmanship to build houses at affordable cost in the State. He advised IIT professors and experts to look into the improved techniques through which waste products can be recycled for utilisation for house construction.Inaugurating a workshop on “House building materials at affordable cost” at the temporary campus of the IIT here on Friday, Pati said, “lightweight bricks, roof, floor and  chips can be made from the industry wastage using scientific methods and several parts of the house can be made at the construction centre.”“This will be very cost-effective and the houses can be constructed in large scale at low cost,” he added. The suggestion came in the backdrop of the uncertain weather and intensity of natural disaster in the State.Pati advised the IIT professors and experts to research on how the conventional methods would be more effective using the advanced technology for building houses.Notably, the State Government has launched a Housing Mission to provide houses to the economically backward classes at affordable prices.Under the programme, around 50 lakh houses would be constructed in both rural and urban areas in the next five to seven years. To achieve the target, approximately eight to 10 lakh houses would be constructed per year.
