SRCAE faces serious funds crunch

The State Resources Centre for Adult Education (SRCAE), managed under the State School & Mass Education Department, has landed in trouble over the expenditure funds.

The Central Government has sought an explanation from the SRCAE Director asking details about the money spent on the unit.

The Centre has not released funds for the SRCAE in second phase in the fiscal 2014-15. Raising question over the funds spent towards development of the education centres, the Central authorities have sought a detailed report about the source of funds.

Notably, the Union Government used to provide Rs 70 lakh every year to the SRCAE for education-based programmes across the State. Expressing displeasure over irregularity for the appointment of Director, the Central authorities had sought explanation why the governing body was not formed to manage the SRCAE in Odisha.

The State Government has taken over the SRCAE, which was formed by former Chief Minister Nabakrushna Choudhury and Malati Devi in Angul for spreading literacy.

Currently, the Mass Education Secretary heads the office, headquartered at the State capital city as there is no governing body and the post of Director has been lying vacant since a long time.

The SRCAE manages everything of the National literacy Mission programme that is currently running in 19 districts of the State.

However, the organisation without a Director and a governing body may soon be closed if the crisis continues for a long time
