In view of the ongoing agitation by the lawyers in western Odisha and the floods in major rivers of north Odisha, the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Saturday urged the State Election Commission (SEC) to extend the date of nominations for the municipal elections to August 30 and shifting the election date to September 25 instead of 19.
“Due to the agitation of lawyers for establishment of a permanent High Court Bench in western Odisha and the floods in major rivers of north Odisha, the filing of nominations for urban local bodies (UlB) elections has severely been affected. In greater interest of democracy and wider participation of people at the grassroots level, we urge the SEC to extend the filing date of nominations and shifting the election date,” party state president said Behera.
