The Twin City Commissionerate police on Monday imposed restrictions on opening up of makeshift cracker shops in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack ahead of Diwali.
The shop owners have been directed to set up cracker outlets at open places away from shops, markets, slums and other crowded areas, informed Commissioner of Police YB Khurania.
As per the directive, the location of a cracker shop must be at least 50 metre away from roads. The Commissionerate police have asked police stations to identify open spaces for setting up of cracker shops, the police official said.
Cracker shops located in areas belonging to BDA, BMC and CMC need to have permission from the respective authorities, Khurania said. Permissions from the Fire department and police are also required, he added.
