Ravenshaw fee hike, teacher crunch protested

The Ravenshaw Bikash Abhiyan, an organisation formed by intellectuals and former students from the university, has slammed both the State Government and the authorities of the Ravenshaw University for various issues prevailing in the university, particularly fee hike and faculty crunch.

At a convention held here on Sunday, Abhiyan president Chittaranjan Mohanty said despite several appeals, issues like fees hike, faculty crunch and interference by private firms are yet to be solved.

“The authorities have increased the application and admission fees for various postgraduate and MPhil courses. It is a conspiracy to privatise education as the authorities have also increased the postgraduate seats in self-financing mode in various departments, including commerce, Hindi, Sanskrit and Odia,” said Mohanty.

Due to some influential persons, adequate numbers of skilled lecturers are not being appointed in university, for which students are being deprived of quality education, he further alleged.

“Though the authorities claim that the fees are considerably cheaper than course fees at other State universities, we demand their immediate rollback,” said Mohanty.

The body warned to stage agitation in coming days if the issues are not solved at the earliest. Among others, Abhiyan members Dr Akshay Dash, Ganesh Tripathy, Tapan Mishra and Pushpita Mohanty were present.
