Nuapada MlA Basant Panda, who is now BJP legislature Party leader in the State Assembly, is likely to be new president of the State unit of the party.
According to sources, the name of Panda has been recommended by many top leaders of the party in view of his undisputable stature and attachment to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS). Besides, he belongs to western Odisha where BJP has a strong base.
Even though the party has invited elected State council members to file nomination papers for the post on January 14, yet party insiders viewed as just a formal process for the election. It may be Panda or anybody else, president would be chosen on consensus as BJP is a disciplined party, said insiders.
The election process would be directly monitored by party’s national secretary Saroj Pandy as poll observer, a release informed.
BJP State unit executive committee members will remain pressent during the election.
