OSHRC seeks report from DM, CDMO

PNS

The Odisha State Human Rights Commission (OSHRC) has asked for an action-taken report from the Gajapati district Collector and CDMO on the death of a pregnant woman on March 4, 2016 in the district.

The OSHRC passed the order based on the petition of civil society organisation Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain.

In her petition Swain stated that a pregnant woman of Hurari village in Mohana block of Gajapati district Joshna Mallick died on the way to hospital while being carried on a cot as there is no motorable road to her village.

Swain alleged that the woman died because of the negligence of the authorities and prayed OSHRC to compensate Rs 20 lakh to the kin of the deceased. The commission has asked the Gajapati Collector and CDMO to submit a report within four weeks.
