The State Transport Authority (STA) on Thursday directed police to act tough against violators of the Motor Vehicles Act. It asked police to seize the Driving Licences of the offenders and forward the licences to the RTOs within seven days for suspension. The DLs would be suspended for three months for commission of offences for first time.
Officials were also directed for submission of reports every month in connection with suspension of the DLs. Subsequently, the reports would be sent to the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety.
The STA’s decision followed the Supreme Court Committee’s observation that the enforcement of traffic laws in the State continues to be poor. The committee has asked the State Government to send quarterly reports in the prescribed proforma.
