A 24-year-old man was rescued from rail tracks in a very critical condition by the Sahadevkhunta police in Baleswar district on Thursday evening and sent to the District Headquarters Hospital.

The victim, identified as Pintu Sethi, a resident of village Bhaskarganj, was spotted on the tracks by locals, who raised an alarm and alerted police. According to sources, the victim was attacked by three unknown men with sharp weapons; and after stabbing him, they pushed him into the rail tracks near the Sovarampur level-crossing before fleeing from the spot.

Pintu, who works in a private company in Haryana, had come on leave to attend his sister’s marriage and was to return to his workplace within a couple of days. Police, suspecting previous enmity behind the brutal attack, began investigation into the incident. Pintu was subsequently shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.
