The WEO of Daringbadi block in Kandhamal district was arrested on Thursday by the Vigilance Directorate on the charge of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a resident of Dangesi village under the Brahmanigaon police station, Subash Chandra Singh. WEO Ranjan Jena had demanded the bribe from Singh to pass the arrear electrical bills of Kirikuti UG High School under Daringibadi block and to issue cheque for withdrawal of stipend money of the school warden. He was caught red-handed by the Vigilance sleuths while accepting the bribe from the complainant in his office chambers.
