People of Chilchila village in Dharamgarh block of Kalahandi district blocked the State Highway from Dharamgarh to Golamunda for about eight hours on Friday demanding fulfilment of basic facilities like supply of drinking water, regularisation of PDS and construction of a bridge, etc.
“We have 1,500 households with 2,000 voters in our village, but the district administration has not paid attention to our needs,” said the villagers.
About the problems of the village, they said the village remains cut off from other areas for over four months during the monsoon due to a stream. “We have been demanding construction of a bridge, but there is no action. The groundwater in our village is contaminated with fluoride; the PDS is very irregular and the BPl families have not been provided electric connection since four years,” said the agitators. Ex-sarpanch of Bramhanchhendia Dhanugopal and leaders of Chilchila village like Satyaban Naik, Sishudev Mund, Chittaranjan Mund, Narayan Behera, Dhaneswar Seth, lakhmidhar Sagar and Kshirasindhu Naik led the agitation.
