Irate candidates set fire to answer scripts

PNS

Irate candidates here on Sunday set fire to their answer scripts protesting gross irregularities in the National Bureau of Professional Testing (NBPT) examinations conducted by the Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan Education Programme (SREP) and demanded refund of their application fee.

Tension ran high at the examination centre at the MBS Public School here as the candidates, to their utter dismay, found that the question papers and OMR sheets provided to them were different. As a result, they could not mark their answers in the OMR sheets as they were not provided with question papers.

“When I asked about the matter to the concerned authorities conducting the examination, they told me that considering the answers I have given to the objective questions which are non-core subjects, they will call me for interview. How can they call me for interview when I have not given any answer to my core subjectIJ” wondered a candidate expressing her resentment.

The OMR sheets had neither the bar code and nor the signature of the candidates.

The SREP had invited applications from the candidates for the post of junior, associate and senior professors. The application fee for one post was fixed at `450 while for the three posts it was `1,350.

“But we were surprised to know that duration of the examination for the candidates who have applied for three posts and those applied for one post will be three hours. We also found that there was the logo of SREP in the admit card, but there was a different logo of another institute in the OMR sheet. Besides, some of the questions were handwritten,” she added.

Following the complaint of the students, the Kharavel Nagar police detained organiser of the examination Dipak Kumar Rout for interrogation.
