The authorities of the FM University here are in a tizzy  as some PG students of the language and literature Department  complained that class were being conducted  in open air under the tress as they didn’t have classrooms.

They also alleged that although a new building dedicated to their department was inaugurated two months ago still then the rooms were not operative.

Vice Chancellor of the university Prof Gitanjali Dash, however, besides stating that the building was not complete in all respect as electrification was yet to be completed, defended open air class system of education.

She said in the reputed Biswa Bharati University, most of the classes are taken in the open air as environment suits the students. She said the open air classes were being taken in the FM University since years.

She further claimed that the open air class was appreciated by the NAAC team during their visit.

She said the language and literature has about 100 students who study Urdu and English as subjects, besides Odia.

“The classes for the department were conducted in the building of Bio science and Bio technology Department. However, a new building was made and inaugurated on January 13. The furniture for class rooms has already been procured but the electrification is yet to be completed.

Since the complaint from some students surfaced, we would be opening the building soon within a few days even without electricity. However, a meeting has been convened for having discussion over the matter with the PG council members. Some students prefer open air classes. The decision to this effect would be taken in the meeting,” said the VC.
