Expressing concern over the deteriorating situation of the flood-affected people, senior BJP leader and former Minister Manmohan Samal on Saturday said that even if it has been more than two weeks since the Phailin created havoc, the State Government has not been able to make proper assessment of the damages.
He said many packages have been announced by the Government but to no avail for the people. People are still at lurch. Proper mechanism to reevaluate damages and ensure proper compensation to the people is the need of the hour.
Besides providing relief to people, restoration of normalcy within a timeframe is necessary as people are still to get damage compensation of 2011. There should be some permanent mechanism to minimise the effect of cyclone and floods.
long-term settlement is needed to avoid such disasters, said Samal, adding that there is shortage of even minimum staff in the Government departments. The Government must go in for recruitment of the needed, vacant staff.
