RCM students to get certificate; irregularities to be probed

The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) on Wednesday decided to impose a ban on the inter-college admission through transfer application within 50 km radius. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Board of Directors held at the State Secretariat here under the chairmanship of Employment and Technical Education and Training Secretary CS Kumar.

It was convened in the wake of allegations of irregular inter-college transfer of students for admission irrespective of ranks and mismanagement in the technical and management colleges, particularly in view of the impasse continuing at the Regional College of Management, Bhubaneswar.

The Board also decided to put restrictions on the inter-college transfer for admission on health ground of the students and would allow only five students on the health ground in each department annually, said BPUT Registrar Nihar Ranjan Nayak after the meeting.

He said it was decided to constitute a JEE Medical Board to examine the students who apply for transfer on health ground. The Board of Directors would only allow for inter-college transfer of students for admission basing on the report of the JEE Medical Board.

However, no transfer of application for admission would be allowed among the Government Engineering Colleges, he clarified. It was alleged that 27 low ranking students had been allowed to take admission in top engineering colleges on medical grounds through transfer application violating the guidelines.

Nayak also said that concerned over the non-issuance of certificate in the RCM, Bhubaneswar, the Board of Directors had decided to issue certificates to all eligible students in the MBA and MCA faculty very soon. However, he said that the university would seek the approval of the AICTE on the question of giving certificates to those students who were selected to take admission in one subject and later changed their subjects.

Nayak said that it was also decided to inquire into the affairs of the RCM relating to mismanagement in admission, conduct of examination and delay in issue of certificates to eligible students. The Board of Directors had asked the BPUT authorities to conduct the inquiry and submit a detailed report by end of May.
