The State Government is mulling amendment to the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) Act, 2002 to bring “radical reforms” in technical education in the State, Technical Education and Training Minister Pratap Keshari Deb said the proposed changes in the Act would be placed before the Cabinet at its next meeting.

After the Cabinet’s approval, the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) (Amendment) Bill would be tabled in the session of the State Assembly starting from August 20, he said, adding that a few radical measures would be introduced in the Act to create a distinct academic calendar of the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) . The nonnegotiable academic calendar would facilitate conduct of examinations in time as well as publication of results on predetermined dates.

Further, the university would create a Pro-Chancellor’s post to be held by the departmental Minister while a grievances cell has been proposed to address various problems of the students.

The prospective changes also intend to appoint an Administrator as Registrar of the university, a key post usually occupied by professors.
