Jeypore Excise sleuths seized over three quintals of ganja and arrested one for storing the contraband in his house. The approximate market cost of the seized ganja is more than Rs 12 lakh, said Excise SP Rabi Patra.
A team of excise officials led by Inspector Pradeep Kumar Pattanaik of Jeypore raided the Karlahandi village under Kotpad police limits basing on specific information on Thursday night and arrested Subash Chandra Saan. The ganja was kept in a number of packets. Saan was forwarded to court on Friday.
“I was paid Rs 3,500 to keep the ganja in my house and deliver it to the concerned buyer as per the order of the supplier,” said Saan. But he said he was not aware of the dealer network.
“The suppliers use people for manual transport of the ganja through the jungle route. The dealer network will be exposed soon,” said the SP.
