The police under immense pressure to solve the rape case, in which a three-year-old girl was sexually assaulted around a week ago, on Monday claimed to have solved the case by arresting step-father of the victim. The incident was reported on August 30 at platform number 6 of Bhopal railway station.
The police officials claimed that semen and blood stains of the accused have been found on the clothes of the accused.IG (Railway) AK Singh while speaking with the media persons on Monday claimed that the stains found on the clothes clearly confirmed that the man sexually assaulted his step-daughter.
The accused Rampal Verma, who is victim’s step father was not consistent in his statements and had told lie about his first wife. He told the police that his wife died but she was found alive in Uttar Pradesh. The accused was living with the victim for the past one and a half years and told the police that his first wife had died of cancer. Police said that he had told the police about a beggar who lured the victim using a biscuit and took the victim but the statement was found fake in the investigation.
The blood stains in the mattress, blanket and near the spot provided the vital link in the investigation which was directionless even after questioning more than 800 people and around 120 drug addicts whose details were provided by an NGO were quizzed.
During the investigation blood and semen of the accused were found on the bed-sheet and clothes of the accused which confirmed that the accused had sexually assaulted her. To avoid any further queries regarding evidences, police officials claimed that no CCTV footage was received from the cameras of railway station, the only camera installed there was not functional.
The police officer failed to give satisfactory reply to the query as why the offender did not kill the victim as the she was a threat in revealing identity of the accused.
In his confession accused told the police that he sexually assaulted the victim and later dumped her in the bushes near the Pul Patra nullah returned and went to sleep and when the victim’s mother failed to find the victim accused started to search for the victim along with the family.
